dimple's philosophy
I believe that YOGA is for everyone, regardless of age, race, sex or religion. I would say that the only prerequisite is 'being able to breathe'.
For me it is all about BALANCE, balance between bus'i'ness and s'i'lence and about KEEPING IT REAL. When you create balance in your life you really begin to feel completeness within yourself.
The Second Yoga Sutra of Patanjali sums up to me this notion of BALANCE:
'yogah cittavrtti nirodhah'
(Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind)
As we all know, 'Real Life' involves commitments, but I truly believe that even a little bit of regular yoga & meditation practice will transform your life for the better. Sometimes yoga in the media is portrayed in extreme terms where students have to 'give up' their current lifestyle and adhere to strict disciplinary rules.
I don't believe that you need to 'give up' anything that you enjoy about your lifestyle, but to enhance it with a yoga practice even if for just 15 minutes a day.
Many students say to me 'I don't have the time' but there is nothing to stop you from observing your breath in meditation whilst travelling to and from work, or doing 5 rounds of Sun Salutations
before brushing your teeth and having a shower first thing in the morning.
It is about honouring and believing that you deserve time for yourself.
I believe that Yoga and Meditation are precious, inspiring gifts, wrapped up in various styles and methods for you to open, experience and enjoy during your lifetime.
I am also a big believer in that there is no 'right or wrong way'.
Choose the style and practice of yoga that suits you and be open to trying new things as you go on your journey.
And remember
'Every journey begins with one small step'
